Provincial Mixed

Today marked the end of the 2010 Provincial Mixed Curling Championships held in Martensville. Congratulations to the Slupski rink from Moose Jaw who took home the championship! I was proud to be playing in this event as well, with my mom and two of my good friends playing on my team. My team finished with 3 wins and 3 losses, one game out of a playoff spot. It was a fun time, we played well, but just came up short on a few shots. However, I do get bragging rights in my house, as my twin brother Kevin was also playing in the event, but only won one game.

E-portfolio Proposal

Why have you chosen to complete an e-portfolio?
I chose to do an e-portfolio as it could be very useful when applying for jobs, which is the stage I am at right now as a fourth year education student. It is also a great way to keep all of my resources in one place in a user friendly environment.

What professional uses does an e-portfolio have for you?
For any job interviews, I could give the potential employers my website address, where they could easily access my portfolio. This way, they could look at the content and have actual evidence of my teaching resources and experiences. Also, if I get a permanent teaching job, an e-portfolio would be useful throughout my career. I could use it to post new resources, tests, lesson plans, etc. that could be used by other colleagues. An e-portfolio would be a great way to stay organized and to keep all my work in one place.

What content do you plan to include?

I plan to include my resume, reference letters, internship report, unit plans, lesson plans, philosophy of education, areas of expertise, photos, and any other resources I have created throughout my four years in the College of Education.

What graphic design considerations have you taken into account for the look of your e-portfolio?

I do not have a drawing or sketch, but I want to keep the design as simple as possible. I want people to be able to navigate around the page easily, and never feel like they are lost. I will be playing around with colors and graphics a lot in Dreamweaver to come up with a visually aesthetic website. I will try a number of things with graphic design until I am satisfied.

What concerns do you have about the process? How do you plan to address these concerns?

I do not have too many concerns at the moment, just getting used to Dreamweaver. It seems like a fairly easy to use program, and I am excited to get started. If I have any problems with Dreamweaver I know people knowledgeable about the program that would definitely give me a helping hand.

Olympic Recap/More Curling News

Well, now that the Olympics are finally over I can look back at my predictions from last Thursday. I was almost completely right with my picks, as the men's curling and hockey teams both won gold in exciting fashion. The one I got wrong was the women's curling team, as they lost a heart breaker in the gold medal game to Sweden. I really felt bad for Cheryl Bernard because she had two shots for the gold medal, and missed them both. But overall a great showing for Canada with a record 14 gold medals! O Canada!

More curling news from my life, as my mixed team (2 males, 2 females on the team) qualified for mixed provincials! The event is being held March 17-21 in Martensville, and it will definitely be a good time. This has been a great year for me as this is my second provincial event, after previously playing in men's provincials last month.

The Olympics

The Olympics are almost over :( but there are still many exciting events left that I love to watch. Hockey is one that Canada is guaranteed to medal in for the woman, and I am excited to see the men's team play again after they destroyed Russia. My bet would be a rematch of the 2002 gold medal game between the USA and Canada, with Canada coming out on top of course. I am also excited to see the two Canadian curling teams compete in the playoffs. Kevin Martin has a great shot at gold now that David Murdoch, his greatest competitor, did not even make the playoffs. Cheryl Bernard has a bit tougher task than the men as I think the womens field is more equal. However, I am predicting a gold sweep for Canada in curling!

Wikipedia Editing

So to keep with the curling theme, I edited the page on the Sasktel Tankard. I added the second paragraph to describe how teams qualify for the Tankard. My team qualified out of the "B" event at the Northern Playdowns. View Wikipedia Post
